The Medical Transcription Career Field
You can grow your Medical Transcription Career
as far as you want to!
Our medical transcription class is based on
the Digital Medical Transcription method because it is the most popular and the amount of people that are switching
over to the digital dictation and transcription is growing every day! Digital Transcription means that you would be
hooking up a digital transcriber to your computer verses placing a micro-cassette tape into the
transcriber.
You would listen to the dictations through
your computer either through headphones or your speakers. Most MTs will choose to listen through
headphones because it is a lot clearer to hear as well as a more private way of doing the work. We do recommend
using headphones for both of those reasons; because you want to be able to hear the information that was dictated
as well as you will want to keep the patient's information as private as possible, especially with all the newer
HIPPA laws!
Now that the Medical Transcription field has
moved up in the world with the ever changing technology, it has opened up so many more at home Medical
Transcription job positions. The micro-cassette method is becoming less used. This means great news for you as you
make your decision to work in this type of career as an at home MT.
Because of the fact that you would not be
dealing with the older method of the micro-cassette you would not have to live within driving distance to do the
Medical Transcription job! You can live hundreds even thousands of miles away from the Dr., hospital, MT Contract
Company, etc. that you would work for.
There are even more benefits to becoming a
Medical Transcriptionist beyond being able to work from home, working for a doctor that may be hundreds or
thousands of miles away, you can take your career up to the next level after training and working in the career
field for a certain amount of time.
Medical Transcriptionist, with two years of
work experience, is eligible to take the national certification exam offered by the AHDI to become a CMT
"Certified Medical Transcriptionist". This would take you from being a "Medical Transcriptionist" to being a
"Certified Medical Transcriptionist".
You can also take the RMT “Registered Medical
Transcription” exam after the completion of a medical transcription course. It is recommended that you
work as an MT for 6 months before taking the RMT exam so you will have some experience and additional
knowledge. The RMT exam is also offered by the AHDI (Formally the American Association of
Medical Transcription).
This is why it is so important to study with a
reputable medical transcription school that can give you the proper training as well as Job Assistance so that you
can get proper Medical Transcription training.
It is important to say that not all MTs choose
to become CMTs or RMTs; however should you choose to do so you would need to have taken a Medical Transcription
Course, worked for 6 months to 2 years, depending on which exam you choose to take.
Other MTs decide to take their career even
further - this can be the case for MTs, RMTs, and CMTs:
Many MTs, RMTs, and
CMTs have decided to move forward with their career by expanding their transcription skills to beyond just
themselves by starting a Transcription Service. Basically in short what this means is that they hire other MTs to
transcribe under them and issue them work that they have gotten from the Doctors / Hospitals they have contracts
with for transcribing their dictations.
When you decide to expand your career to this
level you can take on many clients / Doctors / Hospitals and then divide the workload up between the MTs that are
working underneath you. You pay them a percentage / so many cents per line and then you as the owner keep a % as
well.
Medical Transcription is a very rewarding
career to work at home in; however it does take hard work, self discipline and self motivation to work at home with
any career. Medical Transcriptionist transcribes the dictation of the health care professional (doctors,
physician's assistants, or nurses) regarding the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of patients.
Medical Transcriptionist must be specialists
in the field of medical language, terminology, anatomy and physiology, medications, diagnostic tests, surgical
procedures and medical / legal principles.
How do we help our new MTs with Job
Assistance?
· Once you complete your course we will have you
submit your resume (if you choose to) with us for us to review to see if there are any changes that we feel should
be made.
· After reviewing your resume, and having any
changes we recommend (if any) taken care of then we would upload your resume to a private area to where Doctors,
Hospitals and MT Contract Companies can search through. However, we take special care to ensure that your resume is
not placed in a public place to where people other than potential employers could see your information! We take
your privacy very seriously especially with as much Identity Theft that is going on now days, therefore we will
never place your resume / information in a public place. All Doctors, Hospitals, Potential employers have to have a
log in to see the resumes and we do not allow other people access to the database for the privacy of
everyone!
We also submit your resume to open positions
that both are submitted to our company as well as researched out by our staff.
Should you ever decide that you would like to
take on another doctor to your work load, or even switch positions if you’re not happy in the one you might be in
at the time you can let us know and we will do all of the above with your resume for up to 2 years for you. All of
this is an added bonus to the course material.
It is important to know that NO ONE can
guarantee you a position unless they are hiring you to work for their company themselves. We are not involved in
the interviewing process, as well as we are not on the end of things to know what the doctor might or might not be
thinking when making the deciding factor in whom they choose for their positions.
With that said every MT starts from somewhere
and builds their experience from the ground up! Therefore; if you have the patience that it does take while
searching for any new career position and do well with your learning transcription then things should be fine!
Please know that it does not happen overnight, it does take time to get into a position. While the average time
frame is 1 to 3 months after completion of the course it can take less or more time depending on different
factors!
We are only being honest with you, while we
would love to tell you that you can get into a position the next day - that just would not be true in the majority
of the situations and we feel it is important to be honest with you! Companies that promise the world but then
cannot deliver are hurting both the person they lied to and their own reputation!
We also have been in business for over 13
years; therefore we have built up a good reputation which will benefit you when it comes to the job placement
assistance part of the process because we do get many new positions posted directly with us.
We do not post the NEW MT Positions in our job
database, this way they are kept just for those that have completed our course to have their resume referred for
the position! You will find 1 years experience jobs in our database as we do have MTs that have completed our
course years ago that can search through the jobs wanting more experience since they have built up their experience
over the last several years.
We also will post job TIPS, INFORMATION, and
OTHER Job information on our student web site to better assist you!
· For those that do not know how to use software
such as MS Word, Excel, etc very well we also are adding more software tutorials for students to use for FREE in
the student area. Including how to upload and download files as you will need to know how to do this when you get
your 1st job.
As you can see,
we assist you in many ways to help you succeed in your new Medical Transcription career! Even though this is a
self study course we are here for you throughout your medical transcription training and after you complete our
MT course.
We hope to see you
on our student area and student forum soon!
