Make money while you are completing your medical transcription training!

We are asked a lot how to make money while taking your medical transcription course.

You can’t really do medical transcription until you have finished your training.  However, there are other ways that you can put your typing skills to use and make extra money.

Have you thought about doing basic transcription work to earn extra money?

College students are always looking for professionals to type their school reports.  A lot of students are so busy studying and taking notes that they really don’t have the time to type up a report from their rough draft and will look to others with excellent proofreading and grammar skills to do the job.

You can talk to colleges near you and see if you can post a flyer on their bulletin board.  Be sure to make the flyer look professional and point out your strong skill points.

Keep in mind that most college students can’t afford expensive rates so be sure to make your rates affordable enough to attract the students to your transcription services.

Once you do a report for a few students you will find that they will usually refer you to their friends (if you did a good job).  This can bring you more work.  You might even find yourself having to turn some work down.

Make sure you still allow time to devote to your transcription training.  While you do want to make extra money, you don’t want to be overloaded with too much work and not have enough time for your training.

Another idea is to offer transcription to book writers!  Many times authors will record their book on an audio tape and have a transcriptionist transcribe the pages for them.

Be creative and think outside of the box of just “medical” transcription, and you will find a lot of opportunities to make extra money while you are learning your new career.
