Do you think you are too old for a career change?
We get calls all the time from people looking forward to changing their career and are afraid that they might be too old to do medical transcription. This is simply not true!
The age of a medical transcriptionist can range from 18 – 65 years old! We have seen some even older.
We have seen an increase in people that are at retirement age looking for jobs. This is because they are expected to live off of Social Security. It is well known that Social Security is not very much money! For some people, it won’t even put food on the table for a month.
One good thing about the medical transcription career field is that it embraces our more mature generation! Doctors don’t look at the age of an MT before they hire them, but they love getting MTs that are mature enough to know they have to get their work done within a certain time frame.
Don’t get me wrong, there are mature adults in their twenties as well. However, there are also adults in their twenties that spend a lot of their time chatting online or playing video games.
I am not saying there is anything wrong with this, but what I am saying is that to be successful in a medical transcription career you have to have the maturity to know you can’t get caught up in things like that and not get your work done.
This will land you unemployed very quickly.
If you are worried that you might not be able to start a brand-new career, don’t be! You are never too old to learn new things.
