About MTatHome Medical Career School
MTatHome has been training in the medical transcription career field since 1997. In 2011 we added medical billing & coding courses. Our school has qualified student advisors that are here to assist students with any of their course questions.
Medical Transcription Training
Our medical transcription courses can be done from home and are self-paced. There is not a time limit on our medical transcription course options. We train by the AHDI medical transcription standards and are an educational member of AHDI. Medical Transcription Editing is covered in our medical transcription courses. This is important because some doctors use voice recognition software to create a draft report. Once they have the draft medical report they will then send the audio dictation file along with the draft to the secure server for the MT to download.
The medical transcriptionist (MT) will download both files and edit the report while listening to the audio dictation. Medical transcription editing is very important because the voice recognition programs will most always have a lot of errors because it did not understand what the doctor was dictating. A medical record is a permanent part of each patient’s medical file.
Reports with errors are not acceptable. The only way to get a medical report 98% accurate or better is to have a medical transcriptionist either transcribe it from start to finish or review and edit the voice recognition reports. We provide our students the best medical transcription training possible. Our medical transcription course is a combination of textbooks, CDs for the computer, and online access to our student area. Our students receive resume and job assistance upon completion of the training. To find out more about our medical transcription courses click here.
Medical Billing & Coding
While medical transcription is usually done from the MTs home in most cases; medical billing & coding is different. Most jobs for medical billers and coders will require the employee to work on-site at the hospital or doctor’s office. This is because you are dealing with billing the insurance companies, Medicare and patients.
If questions come in about a patient’s medical bill the employee usually needs to be on-site to pull up the information and review the medical claim. The Medical Billing & Coding course that we offer is done 100% online. While you can set your own schedule as to when you study, there is a 12 month time limit on the medical billing & coding courses.
